On April 2, the roller table upgrade for the 5,000mm shearing line at Shagang's heavy plate mill was successfully hot-tested and entered trial production. The system operates stably with precise control and smooth material tracking, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent upgrade of two 3,500mm lines and demonstrating MCC Huatian's engineering capabilities in the heavy plate sector.
The original roller table at Shagang's heavy plate mill had multiple issues, including too many rollers, insufficient grouping, poor control accuracy, and difficult material tracking, which severely affected line efficiency and production stability. To address these challenges, the project team restructured and re-zoned the roller tables across the crop shear, side trimmer, plate shear, and finished product warehouse. The drive system was also optimized and upgraded.
Balancing cost and stability, the upgrade prioritized the reuse of existing ABB ACS800 drive cabinets while adding new ABB ACS880 cabinets for the shearing line and domestic drive cabinets for the collection area. Through intensive commissioning, the team achieved seamless integration and coordination between the domestic drives and the original ABB drives, maximizing the use of existing equipment and minimizing investment. Key indicators of the 5,000mm line, including speed regulation accuracy, dynamic response, and equipment availability, all exceeded contractual requirements and earned client recognition.
The project team will continue to deliver the remaining two 3,500mm line upgrades with professional service and efficient execution.
